Kid-friendly activities in Darling Harbour

Sydney’s Darling Harbour gives families plenty of fun for the young (and young at heart!). Not only is Darling Harbour within walking distance to Sydney’s CBD and inner-city suburbs, there’s also plenty of family-friendly activities that won’t break the bank!

Here are our tips for kid-friendly activities in Darling Harbour.

Australian National Maritime Museum
Ahoy! If your kids dream of setting sail on the high seas, the Australian National Maritime Museum is the place to be. Step aboard a navy submarine, see the Spirit of Australia (holder of the world water speed record since 1978) and imagine discovering new worlds when you climb aboard a replica of Captain James Cook’s HMB Endeavour. Admission starts at $20 for children 4-5 (kids under 4 are free) and $79 for a family pass (2 adults and up to 3 children aged 4-15).

Madame Tussauds Sydney
Get up close and personal with Hollywood celebrities, home-grown heros and powerful politicians at Madame Tussauds Sydney. You’ll feel like you’re walking the red carpet and you can even take home selfies with a Hemsworth or two to prove it! We suggest booking tickets online for the best value with prices starting at $35 for general admission.

Powerhouse Museum
Free for all kids under 16, the Powerhouse Museum is a jam-packed day of fun for all ages. With more than 380,000 objects the museum tells tales from science, technology, industry, design and arts and history and how they have changed our world. Be sure to check online for the latest exhibitions and events!

Wild Life Sydney Zoo
Short on time and can’t make it across the Harbour to Taronga Zoo? No stress. Wild Life Sydney Zoo in Darling Harbour is home to some of Australia’s most iconic animal characters - koalas, wombats, kangaroos and platypus to name a few! Treat the kids to a breakfast they won’t forget with the ‘Breakfast with the Koalas’ experience on Saturday and Sundays from 7:15am.

SEA Life Sydney Aquarium
For budding marine biologists and Nemo-lovers, SEALife Sydney offers a family-friendly deep dive into the lives of our ocean creatures. From penguin expeditions, shark diving and dugong island you’ll be humming to Sebastian’s ‘Under the Sea’ in no time.

Pyrmont Bridge
The world’s oldest surviving electrically-operated swing span bridge calls Darling Harbour home and if you time your walk across the bridge right, the kids will get to see it in action (it is generally open for demonstrations on weekends and public holidays). This piece of Sydney’s history, originally built in 1857, sees some 5 million pedestrians tread it’s path each year, and take in the 360 degree view of Darling Harbour.
